Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea - a country the unique nature of the set of distinctive ethnic groups, with an amazing history and traditions, formed as a result of migrations from the Asian mainland to the islands of Australia and Oceania, about a century ago.

In the XVI century explorer from Portugal Jorge de Meneses named the island Elias dos Papuan, which means "Island of curly hair." For the same reason traveler Yñigo Ortiz de Retez from Spain later named the island of New Guinea - he found the descendants of the inhabitants of the Guinean tribes of Africa. More on these lands visited by Captain Bougainville, Cook, Stanley and John Moresby, after their studies more than a century no European explorers did not appear. In the middle of the XIX century Holland told of their rights in the western part of the island in 1884, Germany seized the northern part of the territory, just three days later, Britain declared a protectorate over the southern coast of the island. In 1906 the island was called Papua, he ran an independent Australia, which won over to the 1920 German part of the land and established itself officially. Twenty years later, all the lands were captured by the Japanese, by 1945 the mainland and the island of Bougainville were repulsed, but on the territories of New Ireland, Rabaul and New Britain, fighting continued until the surrender of the Japanese Army. The eastern half of New Guinea was returned to Australia and became a mandated territory of Papua New Guinea. In 1973, Papua New Guinea gained self-government, and in 1975 - full independence.

Also we advise to see a military cemetery Boman, waterfalls, Roan and walk along the trail "Cocody Trail", stretching over 90 km, which is a kind of "bridge" connecting the north and south coasts of the island. With this "bridge" is an impressive view of the tropical forests and mountains. One of the main attractions - Mount Wilhelm 4509 m altitude. There are several routes to the mountain uplift, but the security must use the services of a guide and instructor. A very interesting excursion to the River Reserve Bayer, the valleys of the rivers Ter and Vaga - great places for mountain tourism, water tours of the  Lake Kutubu, the volcano Giluwe, which is the apex of the country, its surface - the alpine meadows.
